Expedition Eastern Sierras
Spirit of The Sierras
The Yosemite valley and much of the eastern Sierra hold an iconic visual yet spiritual hold over the people who gaze upon the lands they survey. These mountains are powerful. Spirits reside here from the time ingenious peoples first crossed them and set up trade routes to the era we find ourselves in today, one of continued exploration. In collaboration with @revolutionrace, I find myself here, overlooking the mighty minarets, and meeting Lucy Kauk, a powerful Pomo & Coast Miwok elder, (also the mother of legendary Yosemite climber Lonnie Kauk) who explains the importance of asking permission from the spirits of the land when venturing into the wild. The natural world has much to teach us if we, as she says, “stop, look, and listen”.
