Description

Inspired by my late grandfather, we called him “Grandpere”, meaning “Grandfather” in French, who was an explorer, world traveller, surgeon and magician. He was my inspiration for my own fascination with travel and exploration. Often times, I would get lost in his treasure trove of a study, where he kept trinkets and relics from all of his expeditions across remote areas of the world. In the 1940-50s, Surgeons were taught sleight of hand skills to be better with their finger dexterity, something my Grandpere learned and employed overseas to bridge cultural and communicative divides.

In this tutorial, Rich will teach a three card phase utilizing specifically designed jokers included in every deck of cards for this routine. A card is selected. The spectator remembers it and places it back into the deck. A joker card is presented, the Grandpere joker. It is noted that on the card Grandpere is smoking a pipe, but where is the smoke? With a quick hand move over the card, the pipe is revealed to have smoke coming from the end. That’s odd. Grandpere has traveled the oceans and the 7 continents, surely this is by no coincidence. Is the card alive? The magician reveals that Grandpere knows the name of their chosen card. With another swift hand move over the joker card, the smoke transforms into the name of the spectators card.
